What is the difference between a japaniese graphic novel and a manga??

One of my favorite series, Karin or Chibi Vampire- theyre the same, has novels and manga. Whats the difference??
Okay, i get that now. A graphic novel is a manga. But then, how come there are the graphic novel/ mangas and still a different product called a plain ol ‘novel’ on sites where you buy japaniese products.

Well, a graphic novel is any book with the pictures and words tied together, like a comic book. A japanese graphic novel is a manga (manga means “comic” in japanese). All mangas are graphic novels, yet all graphic novels are mangas.
