I need some expert advice on buying a used van. Please help:) Thanks!?
I own a 93 mercury Villager with 94,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new and used it just for around town, taking the kids to school ect. I had to have the muffler replaced, brakes & many other repairs due to just using it for pleasure. I have had no major problems with it. I took very good care of it. I don`t want to put any more money into it at this point. I came across a oldsmobile siloet 1999 130,000 highway miles on it. It has been garage kept, maintained properly. It is a premire edition & is fully loaded with anything you could imagine!! Mint condition not one scratch on it. The man was asking $6,000 I offered him $5,000. I went on-line & looked up the book value,$7,685. mint cond. I also took it to my mechanic & he said tht it was in excellent cond. My husband does not want me to get it because of the miles. I hate brand new cars! I refuse to take out a loan & have payments. I luv vans & like the solidness of older cars. Am I Crazy? Please help!! Thanks
Any price is negotiable so go and bargain. The problem is that you like it a lot and the owner knows. Buying cars is like a poker game. I would offer less because of the mileage. If the owner drove it on Hwy most of the time, it could be on an excellent shape. Mileage is not a big deal but is a big deal if he did all proper maintenance. When comes to trades and sales is a huge issue. Do not let the looks fool you neither.
Most likely is paid off and he is trying to get the most of it because no one will. Is a typical case of selling on the streets for more money than the dealer’s trade in. I bet he was offered 2,000 or so at the dealer.
I drive tons of Hwy miles and my car is in great shape! I have seen cars with half of what I have and they are the biggest POS I ever seen.
On your case… bargain. You might get it for more than half the price. Is worth the wait.
Beside, your van has less mileage and you know what is capable of… but I understand is a “Ford” :-p
